The MacEwan United Nations Club was founded three decades ago to provide students with a unique opportunity to participate in prestigious Model United Nations conferences around the world. In the years since we have been active, we strive to develop our delegates in core intellectual abilities of public speaking, research, negotiating, as well written and verbal communication skills. Our delegates will develop these skills through engaging in global issues and current affairs alongside hundreds of other students in both domestic and international conferences.
We take a team of delegates to several UN Conferences each year, where they will act as the "ambassador" for a selected country our school represents. We take a team of delegates to several UN Conferences each year, where they will act as the "ambassador" for a selected country our school represents. In our most recent trip to NMUN in New York 2024, MacEwan had the great honour to represent the country of Netherlands. During the conferences our delegates will represent their countries interests in various UN committees; discussing and negotiating international responses to issues or topics of general concern to all UN Member States. The outcome of these conference negotiations are working papers which groups of delegates cooperate in producing, and then vote upon.

Nathan Poon
Hello! My name is Nathan Poon, and I am honored to serve a second term as the 31st President and Secretary-General of the MacEwan University United Nations Club. I am currently in my fourth year of a Computer Science degree, with a double minor in Finance and Political Science. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of leading our team through one of the most successful years in MacEwan Model UN’s 31-year history. Our initiatives have allowed students to gain valuable experiences on both local and international stages. During my first term, I had the opportunity to lead delegations at Model UN conferences in Germany, Japan, and New York, and I also served as President of the Alberta Intercollegiate Model United Nations 2024. These experiences have shaped my leadership style and deepened my commitment to promoting global awareness and collaboration among students. I look forward to working with all of you this year and continuing to build on our shared successes.

I'm beyond excited to return for a second term as Vice-President and Director General of the MacEwan Model UN Club. I'm entering my fifth year of a Political Science degree, with a minor in French, and I plan on pursuing a Master's in International Security. I have been with the Club since 2022, and the experiences and opportunities this group has allowed me have been humbling and course-setting beyond words. I have attended conferences around the world, from Calgary to New York to Okayama, and I'm excited to share my insights with the rest of the group as we make our way through the year. I hope that our members find a community here, as I did, one that supports them and challenges them in their work, pushing them to improve. I will do whatever possible to make that happen.
Christian Abundio Recla Galera
Hello!!! My name is Christian, your VP Relations, a.k.a. social media guy and more. I am in my 3rd year of my Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Sociology. This is now my second year of being part of the exec team. During my first year in the club, I earned a spot in the clubs' delegation at NMUN New York 2023, and since then, it has been a journey. From then on, I have attended several conferences around the world, delegating to Calgary, Germany, and now, for the second time, to New York, where, together with my committee partner, we received the Best Position Paper Award in GA 1. I even got the opportunity to Chair a General Assembly Committee in the Philippines! I also love boxing and joining basketball runs with my friends. Honestly, I just turned into an expert for any sports in which the Philippines and Canada are both participating in the Olympics and would make not-so-accurate predictions.
Luka Schalomon
Hello, my name is Luka and I’m your VP Operations or better known as the guy who handles insurance and passports and I help make sure members have an opportunity for travel to conferences and am honored to help bring the model UN experience to new members! I’m a fourth-year political science student and applying for law school for next year and go into the club 2 years ago as an extension of my interest in international relations and have had such a fun and enriching time going to New York last year and am pumped to go to the Galapagos in November. In my free time, beyond working with the model UN club of course, I play video games like Minecraft, Genshin or Europa Unversalis IV with friends, read books on political philosophy/polemics or do things like collect Pokémon cards or collect antique books.
Alyssa Tonnes
Hello, I'm Alyssa, your resident VP of Fundraising! I'm a 2nd year student majoring in Sociology hoping to one day pursue an MLIS (Master's in Library and Information Science) at the University of Alberta. After my studies, I'm hoping I can one day become an archivist. Having already graduated (2023!) from the library diploma program at MacEwan, I work at both the MacEwan and NorQuest College libraries as a library technician. If you're ever on campus, come swing by the library and say hi! Quite stereotypically, I do read when there's some down time for it, but sadly, I don't have a cat. I'm also currently trying to get better at running since I got talked into doing a couple 5ks on a lark, though usually you can find me about 50 hoarded tabs deep into whatever tangent/hyperfixation I've just picked up. I've only been with the club for a year, but I'm very excited to work on keeping the conferences we go to as affordable as possible for general members through our various fundraisers.
Madison Martell
Hello! I’m Maddy, the VP of Events! I am in my second year of the Bachelor of Arts program and currently aiming for political science degree, but I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing quite yet. My dream is to be able to help people in whatever field I go into. I’m from a small town a couple of hours from here, but through volunteering in my community I was able to gain a lot of event hosting and planning skills. In my spare time I enjoy looking at different markets, playing typically cozy or story based video games, and hanging with friends! I’m still pretty new to Edmonton so please recommend me some things to do and try! I’m so excited to meet you all and to have a great Model UN year!
Reise Romanchuk
Hello, I am Reise Romanchuk, I'm pursuing a bachelor of arts majoring in Political Science and I have no idea what I plan to use this degree for just yet. I moved to Edmonton from Calgary at the start of my degree, which means I often get asked "Where do you like better??" and then I have to lie and say "Definitely Edmonton!!" In my free time, I like to play guitar, and sometimes even banjo. I joined this club in my second year and am now entering my fourth as the Vice-President of Finance, so I'm the guy who has to chase you down for your cheques. I am looking forward to attending NMUN New York this year and making new friendships.
